Ideas are the most important elements of music. Without ideas, there would be no meaningful communication. It is also important to follow nature, in a number of different senses. Just as there are harmonies in nature, there are also natural harmonies in music. These phenomena should not be ignored, as they give rise to a vast sea of possible emotions and potentially unifying forces. In another sense, nature does not contain anything inessential; it follows its own course, although there are frequent unexpected changes that continue to surprise us. My artistic development has followed its own natural course and each work I compose evolves intrinsically over time.
